Scunthorpe takeaway run by former US restaurant owner is serving up gourmet burgers

A Scunthorpe takeaway is cooking up gourmet burgers after its owner was ‘fed up’ of poor quality food in the area.

Owner Neil Stamp ran a burger joint in America before coming back to England, living in Devon before moving back to Scunthorpe in 2018. After moving back to the area, he felt there were no decent takeaways in Scunthorpe and decided to take it upon himself to improve that.

Opening Brunch just over a year ago on Frodingham Road, Neil and the team work with fresh halal meat that is cooked to order. In time, he hopes to expand the business to other parts of the country to show people what can be done with quality cooking and ingredients.

He said:”I originally ran a burger joint in America before moving back to Devon and then Scunthorpe in 2018. When I came back there were no good takeaways, they were all rubbish. The chicken shops you could go to 30 years ago hadn’t changed.

“I was unhappy about how bad they were and decided to start my own with my business partner. We’re not just doing burgers now though, we’re also trialling hot dogs, milkshakes and loaded fries as we look to build the brand. The main thing for us is to bring whatever people love to the store.”

However, during a Cost of Living crisis, Neil admits it hasn’t been the easiest of times. “It’s hard work with everything going on and we’re just trying to keep our nose above the water at the minute. We want to build our customer base and we’re hoping that the launch of our new menu will do that.”
