Sheffield United News: Conor Coady makes Wolves intention clear, Nottingham Forest target wanted

Hello and welcome to today’s Sheffield United news and transfer round-up as Wolves chief issues Conor Coady update and Wayne Rooney wants Blades’ target Lewis O’Brien.

Conor Coady intention clear

Conor Coady wants to come back into the Wolves picture for next season, according to the club’s sporting director Matt Hobbs. The 30-year-old has been linked with interest from both Sheffield United and Nottingham Forest.

It has been claimed that his future is in doubt after spending last season on loan at Everton and with the club in need of freeing up finances to comply with FFP, Coady was seen as a possible departure. However, Hobbs says he could still remain with talks planned with manager Julen Lopetegui over what next but Coady’s intention is clear.

“Conor is someone I’ve spoken to more or less every day since the season finished,” Hobbs said as reported by BirminghamLive. “He’s made it clear he’d like to come back, however there’s obviously a lot of interest in him, but the manager is speaking to him soon to get a feel for him and see what Conor wants.

“The type of player I’m talking about signing, Conor would be that type of player and he’s already our player, but it’s a conversation for him and the manager to have.”

Rooney wants United target

Sheffield United-reported transfer target Lewis O’Brien is wanted by DC United. The midfielder is currently on loan with Wayne Rooney’s side in the MLS but the Blades have been credited with interest.

O’Brien was believed to be a target before for United, when at Huddersfield, and it is being claimed he is back on their radar again after being left out of Steve Cooper’s 25-man squad in January. He is on loan in the US until July 16, meaning Paul Heckingbottom will have to wait if he wants to make a move for the midfielder.

However, what could complicate matters is the fact that Rooney wants to extend the loan until the end of the year.

Baldock’s Egan warning

George Baldock has warned his Greek colleagues to be aware of the threat of his ‘magnet-head’ pal John Egan. Greece face Ireland tonight in a European Championship qualifier.

Baldock has already told his international team-mates about Egan’s ability from set-pieces. He told the media: “He is a big danger at set-plays. He must have a magnet in his head because he always seems to attract the ball at set-plays.”

Egan has already found the net against the likes of Portugal, Scotland and Armenia and will captain his country tonight in the absence of Seamus Coleman. He said: “As a center-back, if we get into the box and try to chip in with goals, it helps the whole team.

“We work a lot on our set pieces, and if we get a chance to get up there on the night, we want to make it count. Baldock is a close friend of mine, and he has been a good addition to the Greece set-up, but there isn’t much more I can say until after tomorrow night, for sure.”

International round-up

Young striker Will Osula could stake a claim in Paul Heckingbottom’s plans for next season with a good showing at international level. He could make his debut today for Denmark under 21s against Lithuania.

Ismaila Coulibaly will be hoping to add to his international experience this weekend. The Blades midfielder has been called up to the Mali squad for Sunday’s AFCON qualifying match against Congo on Sunday. Team-mate Iliman Ndiaye has already qualified for the tournament, taking place in January, and victory for Coulibaly and co could be enough to book their place at the tournament.

Sander Berge’s Norway are in action tomorrow against Scotland. Hopefully, his international manager will no longer be commenting about his future now that Sheffield United have been promoted to the Premier League.

Anel Ahmedhodzic is also going to come up against some of Europe’s top talent when Bosnia travel to Portugal.

Brewster ‘making progress’

Rhian Brewster is making progress in his bid to recover from a second major hamstring issue. The Blades striker needed an operation after pulling up injured within minutes of coming on as a sub at West Brom in October and then suffered a setback towards the end of the season.

Heckingbottom is warning that despite the progress, they will take extra caution to make sure he is completely over his injury troubles. Full story here.
