Sheffield Wednesday victory parade start time, road closures and other key information
Sheffield Wednesday are back in the Championship – and there’s a party planned for the Steel City. Wednesday sealed a return to the second tier after a slender but deserved win over Barnsley at Wembley. Josh Windass scored the only goal with virtually the final kick of the game.
And to mark the occasion, the Owls’ players and staff will be taking part in a parade through the city’s streets so that all Wednesdayites can celebrate together as one.

When and where is it?
The Owls’ players and coaching staff will parade the League One trophy in Sheffield on Wednesday, May 31.
The open top bus will make its way from Devonshire Green to the Town Hall and will run from approximately 5.30pm to Sheffield Town Hall for around 6pm.
Road closures
Sheffield City Council have advised there will be some disruption on the day, for reasons of security and crowd safety. There will be road closures and parking restrictions in place on the day to facilitate the event.
The route will be closed to traffic and the bus is expected to travel at walking pace to allow Wednesdayites to follow it along the route. A Wednesday statement read: “With the route closed to traffic, the open top bus will travel at walking pace to allow the Owls to celebrate with fans along the route. Traffic disruption is expected in the city centre on the evening of the event and road closures will be in place.
“Fans can join in the celebrations outside the Town Hall in a traffic-free Fan Zone. The Wednesday party will then attend a civic reception at the Town Hall.”
The following streets will be closed:
Surrey Street
Norfolk Row
Fargate
Leopold St (mini roundabout Orchard Lane)
Balm Green/Barkers Pool (access to rear City Hall and Burgess St building site – exit back on West St)
Other restrictions
There will be road closures at Devonshire Green too, with parking on Fitzwilliam Street suspended on the day and Fitzwilliam Street itself closed from the junction with Wellington St from approx. 4.30pm to allow for the audience to gather safely for the parade. Parking on Surrey Street and Norfolk Street will be suspended all day. Loading/unloading for adjacent business will be facilitated until 2pm where possible.
Road closures will also be in operation around the Town Hall from 10am, with controlled access until 1pm. These are expected to be in place until approximately 9.30pm; roads will be reopened as soon as it is safe to do so. Access to Leopold St from Barkers Pool will be closed from 10am.
What has been said about the victory parade?
Lord Mayor Colin Ross said: “Congratulations to Sheffield Wednesday on their promotion to the Championship. A fantastic achievement for the Owls and one I am sure Wednesday fans will be keen to celebrate. The victory parade will be a brilliant opportunity to come together and celebrate another football victory for the city.
“Sheffield is the home of football and to see two victory parades in a month, with fans from both sides of the city coming together to celebrate their footballing heroes, is a real moment for the city. I am looking forward to Sheffield hosting lots of exciting matches next season.
“I’d like to remind fans to respect the city, each other and security staff if they’re coming into the city centre to watch the victory parade.”
