Spectacular double Liverpool deal close, as player’s agent lands in England and second transfer advances

Spectacular double Liverpool deal close, as player’s agent lands in England and second transfer advances

Liverpool are closing in on a pair of high profile midfield additions, while a report has detailed a third player Reds fans should keep an eye on.

Overhauling a sub-par midfield is priority number one at Anfield this summer. With the likes of Arthur Melo, Naby Keita, James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain all leaving, a revamp is now a necessity and no longer a luxury.

Brighton’s Alexis Mac Allister looks set to be the first player through the door, with the Argentine World Cup winner reportedly striking a ‘full agreement’ on personal terms, per Sport.

A transfer fee in the region of £70m had been touted in the media. However, trusted reporter Fabrizio Romano claimed the true figure is “way less”.

Shedding further light on the numbers involved, Football Insider stated the actual fee is between £55m-£60m. The Reds won’t have to go higher thanks to the presence of a clause in Mac Allister’s contract.

Now, according to Romano, Mac Allister’s move to Merseyside is poised to ramp up.

The journalist tweeted Mac Allister’s father and agent have both flown to England and wrapping up the final details will be their priority while there.

Romano concluded the expectation is the deal will be completed some time “next week” (w/c Monday, June 5).

Second Liverpool signing ‘advanced’

Elsewhere, a second midfield arrival in the form of Nice’s Khephren Thuram is ‘advancing’.

L’Equipe reported Liverpool have been in talks with the representatives of the 22-year-old France international for weeks.

The discussions have seemingly borne fruit, with Liverpool then opening dialogue with their counterparts at Nice.

Now, a fresh update from Football Transfers claims a move to sign Thuram is ‘advanced’.

Khephren’s father – former France ace, Lilian Thuram – is leading the negotiations that are understood to be progressing.

Jurgen Klopp’s admiration of Khrephren Thuram is confirmed in the piece and the player is labelled ‘happy’ to join the Reds.

Competition will come from PSG who look set to miss out to Chelsea on Sporting Lisbon’s Manuel Ugarte. However, Liverpool have seemingly stolen a march on PSG and a deal appears theirs for the taking.

Reports have differed wildly on how much a Thuram transfer will set Liverpool back. Anything in the wide range of €40m-€60m (approx. £34.5m-£51.7m) has been cited.

Football Transfers claim a third midfield move – this time involving Borussia Monchengladbach’s Manu Kone – might not be as high on Liverpool’s radar as other outlets are claiming.

BILD’s Christian Falk stated Liverpool’s interest in the 22-year-old is “real and big” earlier this weekend.

Instead, Feyenoord’s Orkun Kokcu is reportedly a better bet, per Football Transfers.

The Turkey international, 22, was instrumental in helping Feyenoord lift just their second Eredivisie title since the turn of the century this year and will cost around €40m (£34.5m) to sign.
