St Clements Hill petition for 5G mast near Norwich school

The plan is for a 17m pole to be built in St Clements Hill, on the corner of Wall Road and at the end of Sewell Park Academy’s playing field – for 3G, 4G and 5G mobile internet signal.

The mast, which is to be erected by Clarke Telecoms, is set to improve web speeds for people around the outskirts of the city centre, with a consultation deadline of June 13.

In charge of the petition, walking door-to-door in the community, is Jo Jones who lives in St Clements Hill.

The 62-year-old, who has amassed 65 signatures since starting the petition last week, said: “I’ve reached the end of my tether with it all.

“No one I’ve spoken to in the area wants this mast built – it’s just wrong and I’m so angry about it.

“I already get 5G here and there’s already the mast at the roundabout, so why does there need to be another here?

“The boxes put in by the roundabout are hideous and already have graffiti scrawled on them.

“I’m 5ft 6in and the boxes are taller than me, wider than me and about 3ft deep – a complete eyesore – I’m sick to the back teeth with it.”

County councillor for the area, Julie Brociek-Coulton, said: “I can see why people are concerned about it.

“There are two massive boxes at the nearby roundabout.

“We did some leafletting when the plans were first announced but it seems like the majority of people weren’t aware of it going ahead.”

Mrs Jones added: “It would be different if we didn’t get 5G or there were a lot of businesses here.

“Everyone takes pride in the area here and having these industrial-sized boxes along the road will completely ruin it.

“None of us are benefitting from it – it just makes me so angry.”
