Suspect in Custody After Attempt Murder in Grimsby – Update 2

 

The investigation into the attempted murder of a Grimsby woman on May 13, 2023, remains ongoing by Niagara Regional Police Service 8 District detectives.

The victim is no longer in hospital and continues to recover from the serious injuries.

Detectives are appealing for the publics for assistance to locate a witness. The ongoing investigation has revealed the accused Allan TIMKO may have been picked up hitchhiking on King Street near Thirty Road in Beamsville on May 13, 2023, at approximately 9:30am. It is believed he was then driven directly to the area of Main Street East and Baker Road North in Grimsby. Detectives are trying to identify the person and vehicle that provided Timko a ride. Detectives have reason to believe the vehicle was possibly a van or SUV driven by a white male 65-70 years old.

Update 1 – May 19, 2023

Detectives from the 8 District – Grimsby office of the Niagara Regional Police Service continue to investigate this incident.

The victim in this matter is in stable condition and she continues to recover from serious injuries.

Detectives are appealing to the public to assist them to determine how the accused Allan Timko traveled to the location of the attack or who he may have been with. Detectives have learned that he was at a residence on Lincoln Avenue just south of King Street in Lincoln (Beamsville) at 7:40am on May 13, 2023. The investigation has also determined that the accused was on foot in the neighbourhood near the site of the attack at 9:40am on May 13, 2023.

At the time of the attack the accused could be described as:

  • White male
  • 70 years old
  • White / grey hair
  • Glasses

Wearing:

  • Blue jeans
  • Carrying a large green backpack.

On May 19, 2023, the accused Timko appeared before a video bail hearing at the Robert S. K. Welch Courthouse in St. Catharines. At that time, he was charged with the additional Criminal Code offence of:

Timko was remanded into custody. His next court date is June 2, 2023.

Anyone (residents or businesses) in the area with closed circuit security cameras, doorbell video cameras, or dash cameras are asked to review their footage for the accused Timko for the period between 7:40am and 9:40am on May 13, 2023.

Original Release – May 16, 2023

On Saturday May 13th, 2023, at 12:47pm the Communications Unit of the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) received a 9-1-1 emergency call from a witness who indicating there was a fight occurring between two men in front of a residential address located near Central Avenue and Lynnwood Avenue, in the Town of Grimsby.

Upon arrival, officers assigned to 8 District (Grimsby / Lincoln / West Lincoln) located a 41-year-old female victim suffering from serious injuries consistent with having been stabbed with a knife. Niagara Emergency Medical Service (NEMS) paramedics responded alongside members of the Grimsby Fire Department who provided lifesaving measures to the victim, who was ultimately transported to an out-of-town trauma centre for advanced medical care.  The victim remains in hospital listed in serious but stable condition.

The two men fighting were determined to have been the suspect and a good Samaritan who heard the attack and came to the victim’s aid. The suspect was taken into custody by responding officers. Detectives assigned to the 8 District Criminal Investigative Branch have assumed carriage of the investigation. They are being supported by detectives assigned to the Forensic Services Unit. It has been determined the suspect and victim were known to one and other.

Allan TIMKO (70 years) of Beamsville has been arrested and charged with the following criminal offence:

• Attempted Murder

TIMKO was held for a bail hearing and attended via video link to the John Sopinka Courthouse located at 45 Main Street East, in the City of Hamilton on May 14th, 2023. He was remanded into the custody of Ontario Correctional Services.
