Tarmac’s Bellhouse Quarry in Colchester is burgled

Tarmac’s Bellhouse Quarry in Colchester is burgled

A trio of crooks caused chaos after gaining illegal access to Bellhouse Quarry and its neighbouring landfill site in Warren Lane.

Chiefs at Tarmac, which operates the quarry, condemned the behaviour and warned of “hidden dangers” at landfill sites.

The suspects broke into the site office by smashing its windows before grabbing whatever they could from inside.

Among the stolen items were an air rifle, a drone tablet, airpods, sunglasses and several bunches of keys.

The trio, believed to be an older man alongside a teenage boy and girl, then drove a tractor around the quarry having located its keys.

“We would also urge members of the public not to trespass at operational or disused quarries, due to the hidden dangers they can contain.”

The burglary is being investigated by Essex Police whose officers are trying to trace the suspects.

A police spokesman said: “It was reported three people gained entry to Bellhouse Quarry and Landfill in Warren Lane between 3pm and 6.30pm on 21 May.

“A number of items were stolen while it was also believed a tractor on site was driven.
