Tesla updates AI-trained robot army, takes new bots for a walk
Tesla has released new images of its Tesla Bots, which now appear to be able to walk steadily, pick up items and recognize objects. The video was presented by Tesla CEO Elon Musk at the company’s shareholder meeting.
The video shows some notable upgrades made in the Tesla Bot project. This includes enhanced motor torque control, artificial intelligence (AI) training based on human-tracked movements, and object manipulation capabilities. More importantly, the humanoid robots can now walk in a straight line without help from the Tesla staff.
In one demonstration, a Tesla Bot took objects out of one container and then placed them in another, showing a possible use case for robots performing human-like tasks. This action served as an example of how to train the bot’s AI using human demonstrations.

The humanoid robots were first unveiled at Tesla AI Day 2022 in October. At the time, the robot could barely walk forward, with visible insides. Another version that was more complete was also shown, but needed help from the staff to stay upright.
Several internet users reacted to the new images, with some congratulate the new milestone of Tesla and others threatening to beat up the robot when they see it on the street.

The new robot demonstration came days after Musk announced on Twitter that he is stepping down as CEO. On May 11, Musk said he will become Twitter’s executive chairman and chief technology officer and will shift his focus to product, software and systems operations.
Musk will be replaced by Linda Yaccarino as the next CEO at Twitter. On May 12, the billionaire announced that he looks forward to working with Yaccarino to transform the platform into “X, the everything app.”
