The Essex residents recognised in King’s Birthday Honours list including WWII survivor

A survivor of the Second World War, a charity campaigner who has raised nearly half a million pounds and the manager of a soup kitchen for the homeless are among the Essex people honoured in the King’s Birthday Honours list.

In the first honours list for King Charles III’s reign, he will recognise the outstanding acts of public service by members of the public for his birthday celebrations on Saturday (June 17). New honours lists are announced every year for the Monarch’s birthdays and other celebrations, including last year for Queen Elizabeth’s jubilee, in addition to the New Years’ Honours.

Essex has its fair share of community heroes, with this year being no exception, with multiple public figures from the county being recognised. They include a survivor of the Nazi regime in the Second World War, an organiser of the Queen’s funeral arrangements, a tutor who also runs a homeless kitchen, and one of the most skilled ornamental artists in the country.
