The “Follow” feature on Google News will soon show you content that interests you

Do you use the Google News app on Android and iOS as one of your main news sources on a daily basis? Yesterday we showed you two new Android widgets are coming for the app and today we would like to share some information about new features for the app per 9to5Google. There will be a change in the Up Next tab at the bottom of the screen. Now when you tap that tab, you see suggestions for topics and resources to follow, but no content is presented.

When the app is updated, the Up Next tab will display as many as three stories, each with the name of the publication it was taken from and an image from the article. You can add topics of interest, specific sources, and specific locations to help you find news stories that might be of interest to you. Google says that “articles appearing on this page are determined by ranking algorithms similar to those used to display content on Google News.

Google says the revised “Following” tab for Google News is rolling out to Android users worldwide soon and coming to iOS later this year. And Google is also moving its News Showcase licensing program to the US. The company has pledged to pay $1 billion to news organizations for content from more than 700 news organizations. This includes limited free user access to paywalled content.

The company says: “News Showcase consists of panels that give news organizations the ability to package the most important stories of the day for readers, tell deeper stories and provide more context through features such as timelines, bullet points, related stories and a list with important articles. This content is currently appearing in Google News and Discover, bringing familiar news to readers around the world.”

Finally, the service known as Subscribe via Google is being rebranded as Reader Revenue Manage. This feature allows Google News users to subscribe to paid content using their Google account and with automatic login, accessing this content is a breeze.

If you don’t have the Google News app on your phone, tap this link to install it on your android phone and or click here to install Google News on your iOS device.
