The seaside commuter city less than an hour from London named one of the best holidays in the whole world

One of the best holidays in the whole world is under an hour away from London according to a new article.

CNTraveller said that Brighton is in fact one of the best places to go on holiday in the world, specifically in May. Sadly that time has just gone but it means that planning for your trip back to the town for next year can already start to be planned.

The seaside commuter town was named as one of the best places for a holiday in May because of the events it has going on. CN Traveller highlight music festival The Great Escape, and arts festival Brighton Fringe.

The Great Escape is a music festival that has been held in the city since 2006. It showcases around 500 artists from around the musical spectrum, across the city. It is hosted in 30 plus walkable venues with a pop up festival site erected on the beach front.

It’s focus is on new artists and is heavily attended by the music industry searching for the next star. Alongside the performances there are several talks, keynote speeches and opportunities to network too. Its now wonder it has been likened to South By South West in Texas and called by Steves Lamacq, from BBC Radio 6 Music, ‘The Cannes of the music world’.

This year saw artists like Unknown T, Arlo Parks and Maisie Peters perform in their spotlight shows and early bird tickets for next years festival can already be purchased from Ticketmaster.

Brighton Fringe is an arts festival that is much like its namesake in Edinburgh. It is England’s largest arts festival and welcomes performers from many different disciplines to perform.

It has a range of weird and wonderful on display and goes on in conjunction with the Brighton festival meaning teh town is abuzz with culture during the month. CN Traveller also highlight Brighton Food Tours for the cities indie food producers and vendors.

All in all, Brighton has so much to offer all year round, but especially in May when the city is one of the cultural beacons of the world so much highlighting amazing talent.

How to get there and where to stay

From London Blackfriars it is an hour train and From London Victoria it takes around 50 minutes. Tickets can cost as low as £6 when book in advance on Trainline.

To drive it would take around an hour and 20 minutes out via the A23, into the M23 and then back into the A23.
