His parents were teachers while his paternal grandfather was a musicologist. Thomas Anthony Hollander was born on August 25, 1967, in Bristol but he was raised in Oxford. His father, Tony Hollander is a Czech Jew while his mother is English. He grew up with his only sibling, Julia Hollander in a devoted Christian home.

Tom’s parents were both teachers. His father used to run the science department at a well-known school in Oxford.

In pursuit of his educational qualifications, the actor attended the Dragon School and later Abingdon School where was in the choir and was later made the chief chorister. He was also a member of the National Youth Theatre and the National Youth Music Theatre.

Tom Hollander later enrolled at Selwyn College where he read English and was actively involved in several stage productions.

His career in acting started in on-stage theatre productions. In 1981, at the age of 14, he got the lead role in a BBC dramatization of Leon Garfield’s John Diamond (1981).

In his later years, the actor made several film and television appearances. Some of his credits include Pride and Prejudice, Pirates of the Caribbean, Wives, and Daughters, Harry, The Lost Prince, Patriots, and Harley Quinn.

In 2020, he worked with his sister, Julia, and their father to present a BBC Radio 3 documentary about how his paternal grandparents escaped the Nazi occupation in 1938 and also how a letter from a BBC radio sound engineer saved his father’s life.
