Tom Wilson is Drawing Interest and the Rangers Should be Interested

Revenge is a dish best served cold. In the NHL, it’s no different. We’ve seen pettiness in the way of owners and general managers all across the league. Kyle Davidsson and Kyle Dubas have issues. Marc Bergevin and the Montreal Canadiens went to war with the Carolina Hurricanes during a whole offer sheet saga. Wouldn’t it be nice if the New York Rangers were able to get some payback of their own against a hated foe?

According to The Fourth Period, teams have been inquiring about Washington Capitals forward Tom Wilson who is entering the final year of his contract. For a lot of people, this will need no explanation, but this is a website that wants to accommodate all hockey fans. Some of the newer or younger fans may not know what this is referring to without some further explanation while it may not be pleasant to remember for some.

Tom Wilson had a famous minute of insanity against the Rangers when he slammed then-Ranger Pavel Buchnevich’s head into the ice before getting tackled by half the team, promptly dropping Artemi Panarin on his head leading to the set up for all the meme images of Wilson acting like a  big man. It was towards the end of the season and it was probably the driving factor that made James Dolan move on from then-coach David Quinn and General Manager Jeff Gorton.

Now, Wilson is supposedly drawing interest with the Capitals willing to listen to offers on the forward that is going into the last year of his contract. Making a little under $5.2 million against the cap, Wilson is someone that would somewhat comedically fill a need for a right winger on the New York Rangers roster. Fans have wanted a player like Tom Wilson for a long time and with the actual player being someone who is attracting interest, there’s a chance.

Wilson is 6’4, 220 lbs. What is most impressive is that he’s got some serious production to go along with the size to match anyone on a Tyson Fury undercard. In 33 games last season, Wilson recorded 13 goals and 9 assists for 22 points. You may notice he only played 33 games and that is because of back surgery which is always concerning, but that production didn’t dip and you have to wonder if the Caps would move him in the division.
