Verstappen not tired of dominance

It’s going to rain in Canada this weekend. That may yet cause something unexpected to happen, but it is likely that Verstappen will again be unbeatable with his RB19. Would Verstappen rather stay as dominant or miss the competition? On Verstappen.com, the Dutchman is quoted from Canada: “A bit of both. Of course it’s good to have a bit of competition. I loved 2021, but also 2022. At the start of last year, we had some issues with reliability and the car was a little bit heavy. But at the end of the season, the car was pretty dominant.”

The two-time F1 champion continued: “I understand that in general people will get bored if one team dominates. We’ve seen the same with Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull in the past. I hope that more teams are able to get closer so another team can win when there’s a little problem or if you can’t get the set-up 100% right.” Smiling, Verstappen answered the question of whether winning is already starting to get boring: “No. This is much better than anything.”

Verstappen favours Alonso

Verstappen could take his 41st win in Formula 1 this weekend. Should the 25-year-old Dutchman cross the line first on Sunday, he will match Brazilian legend Ayrton Senna. Should it come to that, Red Bull Racing also has a nice milestone to reach. The Milton Keynes-based stable will then have exactly 100 wins in the premier class of motorsport.

Whether Verstappen is up for winning all the races this year with Red Bull? Yep, but the Dutchman considers it unlikely. When asked who he would allow to win then, Verstappen says: “Fernando. He is a real racer and he deserves it. He never gave up and he loves the sport. Sometimes I thought, after so many years in the midfield you must lose a little bit of love for the sport. But he’s a real racer, an animal. So I’d like to see Fernando win a race this year.””
