WCLL ROUNDUP: 8-10 all stars blitz South Durham

WCLL ROUNDUP: 8-10 all stars blitz South Durham

The Wilson City Little League Ages 8-10 All-Star team started off the North Carolina District 6 tournament with a bang on Friday night, cruising to a 24-0 win over Bull City White on J. Burt Gillette Athletic Complex’s Field 2.

Wilson will take on South Durham Orange, which defeated Bull City Red 8-6 Saturday morning, in Southern Bank Stadium on Sunday afternoon, with the winner set to advance to Tuesday’s semifinal round against South Durham Green or Morrisville, and the loser set to take on the winner of Person County and Johnston County on Monday in the double elimination tournament.

Wilson needed just three innings to start the tournament 1-0, as the team jumped out to a 4-0 lead through one inning before piling up a whopping 20 runs in the second.

Hudson Green, Harper Murray and Garrett Godwin combined for the shutout on the mound for Wilson.

Godwin and Hudson Jones both launched home runs at the plate. Godwin also added a triple and double, driving in two runs and also scoring two. Aaron Letchworth and Green both doubled, and Letchworth, Green, Corbin Adams, Murray, Godwin and Walston Langley each had multiple hits, with Walston driving in four runs.

WCLL 7-8 team drops first two games of district 6 tournament

The Wilson City Little League Ages 7-8 All-Star team did not get off to a strong start to the North Carolina District 6 Tournament at J. Burt Gillette Athletic Complex, falling 14-6 to Person County Blue and 12-2 to South Durham on Saturday.

In the first loss on Field 3, a seven-run top of the second for Person County proved to be too much for Wilson to overcome in a five-inning defeat.

Owen Caudle led Wilson at the plate with a 2-for-3 game, triple, run and RBI. Will Clark doubled, and Max Harris notched a pair of hits.

Against South Durham, Wilson trailed 6-0 after one and 12-0 through three innings before scoring its only runs in the top of the fourth inning.

Brandon Kintzele led the way with an RBI double.

Wilson cannot finish 3-1 in order to move onto the District Finals, but will look to finish strong with a pair of games on Sunday, against Bull City in Southern Bank Stadium at 11 a.m. and against Johnston County Blue on Field 3 at 1 p.m.

WCLL 8-9 team drops game one to South Durham

If the Wilson City Little League Ages 8-9 All-Star team wants to capture the North Carolina District 6 championship, it’s going to have to do it the hard way.

WCLL fell 20-5 to South Durham in game 1 of the best-of-three series on J. Burt Gillette Athletic Complex’s Field 2 on Saturday, giving its opponent a chance to clinch the title with one more win.

Wilson took a 3-2 lead through the first two innings, but South Durham exploded for 18 runs across the third, fourth and fifth to put the game to rest.

Eli Rabil and Tony Jones each came up with hits for Wilson, with Rabil scoring twice.

Wilson and South Durham will square off again in Southern Bank Stadium Sunday at 5 p.m. A victory would clinch the district title for South Durham, while a win by Wilson would face a winner-take-all game 3 at “The Bank” on Monday at 6 p.m.
