Who is Anthony Glennon? Ex-Liverpool talent profiled amid PNE interest

Preston North End are being linked with a move for Anthony Glennon just a year after the left wing back left Burnley.

North End have managed to keep one left wing back with Robbie Brady penning a two-year deal to stay at Deepdale.

Yet with loanee Alvaro Fernandez returning to Manchester United and a return somewhat unlikely, PNE are left needing another option.

Football Insider now claim that Grimsby Town ace Glennon is a target for both PNE and Championship rivals Swansea City.

Why Chelsea FINALLY Turned A Corner.

23-year-old Glennon only has one year left on his Grimsby deal and may be seen as a budget-friendly option for North End or the Swans.

PNE fans may not be too familiar with Glennon though, so here is some background on North End’s latest rumoured target.

Who is PNE target Anthony Glennon?

Glennon hails from Merseyside, or Bootle to be more precise, meaning he would find a few similar accents at Deepdale in Ryan Lowe, Mike Marsh, James Wallace and maybe even Tom Cannon.

Glennon played alongside Trent Alexander-Arnold for Croxteth Park and joined the Liverpool ranks at the age of just six.

Whilst Alexander-Arnold has gone on to become a Liverpool hero, Glennon hasn’t quite followed the same path.

After becoming a regular in the Liverpool youth ranks, Glennon was released in 2018 as the Reds felt he wouldn’t make the grade.

Burnley took a chance on Glennon, signing him to a permanent contract after a successful trial spell at Turf Moor.

Glennon became the Burnley Under-23 captain and spent time on loan at Grimsby Town under Ian Holloway in 2020, making 12 appearances.

Glennon went on loan again in 2022, this time joining Barrow as he gained more League Two experience.

Burnley decided to let Glennon go last summer, paving the way for him to rejoin Grimsby on a two-year deal.

Glennon excelled this season, racking up three goals and nine assists from left wing back for the Mariners.

Glennon has become known for his attacking displays, with some defensive issues maybe somewhat eased by playing as a wing back.

One notable display saw Glennon rack up a goal and two assists as Grimsby dismantled Plymouth Argyle – managed by Lowe’s friend and former assistant Steven Schumacher.

Glennon now appears to be on PNE’s radar and may learn plenty from Brady as a left wing back with crossing and set piece ability.
