Yorkshire Business of the Year: seeking firms with positive community impact

The community impact category aims to find the regional businesses that have given back to the community through charitable activities or CSR initiatives.

Last year’s winner, care home provider Banwait Group Holdings, demonstrated its commitment to to the community with a swathe of charitable donations, as well as setting up funds to help both its residents and staff through the pandemic.

It allocated £200,000 to its staff welfare fund, and £74,000 to its residents fund, and raised above £5,000 to help Barnsley Hospice through the pandemic.

Furthermore, through its Making an Impact Fund, it raised thousands of pounds for The Alzheimer’s Society, St Catherine’s Food Bank, Shelter, Wakefield Hospice, Barnsley Food Banks, Homeless charities in Barnsley and Wakefield, Children’s charities in Yorkshire, The Yorkshire Air Ambulance, Victims of Domestic Abuse, British Heart Foundation, Macmillan Cancer Support, Khalsa Aid, UNICEF, British Red Cross, Mercy Ships, Tiny Hearts.

It also set up a network to help victims of domestic and racial abuse, prisoners and women get back into the workforce, and supplied kits to children’s football teams in Barnsley and Wakefield.

Also shortlisted were Bailoran Solicitors, Howarths, Medilink North of England, and Sedulo Group.
