Young woman leaves doctors speechless after demanding scan

A young woman battling bowel cancer has defied doctors after demanding an early scan.

Megan Horrocks, from Crosby, first started suffering from symptoms including fatigue and a bloated stomach while working away in her job as a spa therapist on a yacht. Megan said she didn’t think much of it at first until her symptoms got progressively worse.

Megan, 30, told the ECHO: “I thought maybe I’m getting a bit gluten intolerant. I was getting really bloated and a sore stomach. It was all very subtle, it was probably going on for six months.

“I was fatigued but I thought maybe that was down to 16 hour days and leading a busy life. It wasn’t consistent, that’s why I put it off.”

After booking an appointment with her doctor, Megan was given a blood test which came back all clear. But after being referred for further tests last October, she was told she had stage three bowel cancer just a week after her 30th birthday.

Megan said: “I remember feeling a bit numb. I just thought they were going to tell me I’ve got crohn’s or colitis.
