Your Pixel can now tell you how far your Uber or Lyft is

The Google “At a Glance” widget on the Pixel line provides useful information. It can tell you when an appointment is coming up, warn you if bad weather is coming, tell you when a package is arriving, show you your stopwatch and timer info, and even let you know who’s in front of your doorbell camera. But according to 9to5Google is coming a new feature to At a Glance.

The At a Glance settings page added a new toggle that says, “Show the status of your ride.” This way you can know how far your Uber or Lyft ride is from you without having to open the Uber or Lyft app or go through your notifications. The Ridesharing toggle has yet to appear on our Pixel 6 Pro running the latest QPR3 Beta update, but 9to5Google says it did appear on one of their Pixel devices.

There are other interesting features coming to the At a Glance widget that Pixel users find very useful or nothing more than a distraction. Which camp are you in? Personally, I like having the feature on my Pixel and look forward to upcoming new capabilities, including an alert to alert users to loud noises. The widget is also expected to show airport shortcuts and other transit information.

To check your At-a-glance widget’s settings, long-press on any blank screen next to the At-a-glance widget and you’ll see a pop-up that says “Customize.” Tap that to see the Home Settings menu. Go to At a glance and tap the Settings gear icon. That will show you all the switches you have enabled for the widget. But don’t expect those new settings to appear right away. For some reason, there seems to be a long delay between when we hear about a new feature at a glance and when it finally appears.

For example, we first passed the message last August that code sequences had been discovered that showed that the status of your rideshare would appear in the At-a-glance widget. And by status, we mean how far your ride is from you. Here we are, about 10 months later, and this feature is now rolling out to Pixel devices.
