Saltaire to Leeds Canal Towpath

Distance: 15 miles

This is an off-road flat route that connects two cities, showcasing the outdoor scenery at its very best. Along the way, you can expect to pass through woodland and a valley.

The website says: “This route begins in the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Saltaire (but you can also start in nearer Bingley, or from Shipley as this is mainly a route that follows the Leeds-Liverpool Canal towpath all the way and you can join it at numerous points along its route).”

Great Northern Railway Trail

Distance: 3 miles

Starting from Cullingworth, near Bradford, this circuit is made up of a railway path with minor roads and only one steep climb to conquer as you head to Goit Stock waterfalls.

“The Great Northern Railway Trail is a work in progress, but the completion of the first section over two spectacular viaducts opens up the potential for day rides in this beautiful corner of Bronte country,” explains Bradford Cycle.

It adds: “Cullingworth can be reached from Keighley railway station with a four-mile ride on minor but hilly roads. At Cullingworth you pick up National Route 69 for a short but glorious stretch of railway path, crossing first Cullingworth and then Hewenden (Grade II listed) viaduct, with spectacular views across this wooded valley.”

City Centre to Bowling Park

Distance: 2 miles each way (or 4-mile round trip)

This route begins at City Park and includes traffic-free cycle paths as you travel over Manchester Road, using the famous red bridge.

St Ives Estate

The St Ives Estate in Bingley offers a place to cycle for all the family as you take in its picturesque surroundings.

Bradford Cycle says: “It is a wonderful Country Park with woodlands, open moor, and a wildflower meadow, and bridleways throughout. The Adventure Playground is a fantastic feature for the children and you can stop for refreshments in the cafe or the visiting Ice Cream vans.”

Tong and Fulneck Valley

Distance: 9 miles

Beginning at the historic Tong village in East Bradford, this is a route for cyclists to enjoy in their own time as they discover the countryside.
