A four-team football tournament is taking place this Saturday, June 3, at Parkside, Aveley FC to raise funds for the Colchester Kidney Patients Association & East of England Ambulance Service – Patient Transport, in memory of local Colchester man, Peter Smith who passed away, aged 54 years old on October 5 2022.

The game has been arranged by former Essex Coach of the Year (in 2018) Jordan Stringer to celebrate the life of his Uncle Peter – in addition to raising funds for the two deserving charities on the day.

As Jordan explained – “I hope people will come along and join us on the day to remember Peter and support us as we look to raise funds for Colchester Kidney Patients Association and the local Ambulance Service Patient Transport – both of whom provided such wonderful help and care for Peter.

“Although it is a charity football tournament, we are planning a family-orientated fun day with an array of different events planned and taking place.”

There will be four fifty-minute (twenty-five each way) eleven-a-side matches on the day and the following teams are taking part –

Pete’s Dream Team – Manager: Jordan Stringer

Embleton Donation Warriors – Manager: Ross Embleton (Former Leyton Orient Head Coach)

Universal FC – Manager: George Smith

Herongate Vets – Manager: Steve Edkins

The first two games will be semi-finals with the winners going forward to the final to contest the Peter Smith Memorial Trophy and the two losing sides playing each other for third/fourth place. Games will be settled by penalties if a draw.

Gates open at 12.30pm. Supporters are advised to arrive by 1.45pm as the Bluebirds (a local choir) will be performing before the first game, which is due to kick-off at 2.00pm.

Wristbands are available on the door priced – Adults £5.00, Juniors (9 to 16 years old) £2.50 whilst Under 8’s are admitted free. A match programme is also being produced.

A cash bar will be open and food available on the day.

A raffle with some amazing prizes and an auction – including a signed 2022/2023 Manchester United shirt, will also be taking place.

Jordan paid further tribute to his Uncle Peter – “Pete was a remarkable man and an inspiration to so many. He was a huge West Ham fan and a regular attendee for many years before his health issues made this more difficult for him. He was a great family man and we miss him so very much. I hope that as many people as possible come along on the day to celebrate his life and in turn raise as much money as possible in his name for the two charities – both of which were so very dear to him.”
