Everton transfer news – Boulaye Dia update, Jordan Pickford £45m bid, Jarrad Branthwaite interest

Hello and welcome to the Liverpool ECHO’s Everton live-blog for Sunday, June 18.

It’s gone quiet on the incoming front for the Blues as the number of players being linked with moves to Goodison Park dwindle. It hasn’t stopped players being mooted with departures from Merseyside, however.

Goalkeeper Jordan Pickford continues to be subject to reported interest as Manchester United plot a £45m bid, according to reports that surfaced on Saturday night.

Jarrad Branthwaite looks set to be given the opportunity to feature under Sean Dyche but clubs are reportedly looking to test Everton’s resolve. West Ham United are the latest outfit to lodge interest, according to reports, as they look to sign the defender who impressed on loan at PSV Eindhoven last season.

Alex Iwobi has also been speaking to the media in recent days, as he enters the final year of his contract at the Blues.

Meanwhile, Viktor Gyokeres reportedly eyes a move to Sporting CP despite interest from Everton and other top-flight clubs.

The player’s agent has confirmed that the £25million flop wants to end his Goodison Park nightmare.

“Yeah I think it makes sense, he’s had a torrid time at Everton,” the Sky Sports pundit said, speaking exclusively to Goodison News.

“He’s gone away and he’s played some games, which is great for him. He just wants to rebuild his career doesn’t he? So yeah I think that makes sense.”

Chelsea swoop for Everton target

Chelsea are on the verge of signing reported Everton target Nicolas Jackson, acording to The Guardian.

The piece claims personal terms have been agreed for the Senegalese international ahead of a Stamford bridge move.

Jackson – valued at £30million – was set to join Bournemouth in January but a failed medical scuppered the deal.

Materazzi opens up n Balotelli spat

Former Everton defender Marco Materazzi has revealed how he once asked Mourinho to play against Mario Balotelli in training, a week after a victory over Barcelona, such was his frustration with the forward, so he could give him a ‘good beating’.

The 2006 World Cup winner also shared how Inter team-mates ‘wanted to kill him’ after the forward had declared he was going to play badly against the La Liga giants, and then put in a poor performance after emerging from the bench.

“I gave him a good beating, it’s true”, Materazzi explained on his Instagram, quoted by the Daily Mail. “I love Mario, but he really deserved it that day.

“We’ve become friends again now, practically brothers, but he did something that day that he really should not have done. Throwing his shirt to the ground after the final whistle wasn’t even the worst of it.

“Before the game, on the team bus, he told us: ‘Today I’m going to play badly,’ so I promised to make him pay if he did. When he came off the bench, he tried a shot from midfield rather than going on the counter. Diego Milito wanted to kill him.”

No Onana pressure

Football Fancast claim Everton are under no pressure to cash in on Amadou Onana this summer.

Despite playing for a relegation-threatened side last season, just one year is all it has taken for the midfielder to be linked with Europea heavyweights.

Reporter Dean Jones said: “If they are under pressure to sell him, it won’t come from him. I think that that’s quite important to point out; he’s not going to look to drive anything here, even though he’s been one of their best players no doubt.”

Tarkowski fires Everton warning

James Tarkowski has issued a stark warning to his team-mates ahead of next season after Everton narrowly avoided a first relegation in 72 years.

Tarkowski told evertonfc.com: “There’s a lot of work to be done. We need to do a lot of work in the training ground and a lot in pre-season, too.

“We had games last season where I felt like we played well, but not won or got a result. So we need to score more goals – that’s for sure.

“It’s a big pre-season for us because we can’t be in a position again when we’re at the wrong end of the table.”

It has always been my dream; I have played in it before, and I want to have a taste of it again.

Man United want Everton star?

United’s Spanish shot-stopper faces an uncertain future in Manchester after contract talks rumble on. In Ten Hag’s first season, they returned to the Champions League but De Gea often found himself at the front of conversations for the wrong reasons.

Despite winning the Premier League golden glove, he was susceptible to a mistake which often proved to costly.
