Has Weghorst dropped an Everton transfer hint?

Everton-linked Burnley forward Wout Weghorst has been overheard discussing Blues manager Sean Dyche as he continues to be linked with a move to Goodison Park.

The 30-year-old first moved to the Premier League from VFL Wolfsburg in January 2022 as Dyche looked to bolster the attacking ranks of his then-Burnley side who were looking to claw themselves out of the relegation zone. However despite an unsuccessful first half-season at Turf Moor as the Clarets were relegated to the Championship, six months later the Netherlands forward would land a move to Manchester United as Erik Ten Hag sought to add a recognised No.9 to his ranks to aid the Red Devils’ top-four chase.

Despite failing to find the back of the net during his time at Old Trafford, only doing s away at Real Betis and Nottingham Forest, Weghost started nine consecutive Premier League games between January and March for United and established himself as a vital member of Ten Hag’s pressing system.

“He’s my old trainer from Burnley, though, [Sean] Dyche,” said Weghorst, to one of his international team-mates.

Coleman set for Blues stay

As reported by Everton writer Chris Beesley on Tuesday, club captain Seamus Coleman is closing in on signing a new deal at Goodison Park.

The full-back, who joined the Blues from Sligo Rovers over 14 years ago, has not played since suffering a knee injury against Leicester City in early May. And despite fans fearing they may have seen the last of the Goodison Park great in a blue shirt, it appears Coleman will now pen a new one-year extension.

Kevin Thelwell told where Everton need to strengthen most with five player transfer spree

It will be a summer of change for Everton off the pitch following Monday’s announcement that CEO Denise Barrett-Baxendale, chief finance officer Grant Ingles and club legend Graeme Sharp had stepped down from the club’s board.

An announcement on the future of chairman Bill Kenwright will soon follow, as investment from USA group MSP inches ever closer.

But on the pitch, Everton have much work to do. Sean Dyche’s side narrowly avoided relegation last seasin and Kevin Thelwell is in dire need of funds as he goes about strengthening the playing squad with new signings.

The ECHO has asked fans for their say on the current issues facing Everton, and now we’ve asked writers Chris Beesley and Paul Wheelock their views on the state of the club right now.

Viktor Gyokeres breaks silence on future amid Everton transfer links

Speaking on his future, Everton-linked forward Viktor Gyokeres has urged Coventry City to think about what is best for him not just the club if he is to negotiate a summer exit.

The forward said: “I guess Coventry want what they want. I hope they can think about what I want, and what I feel, and not just about who pays the most.

“I don’t have an exact grasp of that part, but we have talked a little about it. I could have gone last winter but chose to stay, and felt that they wanted to keep me for the whole season. I hope we can cooperate now that the season is over.

“You can ask the clubs if they feel it is too high. It’s up to them. I only have one year left on my contract, but considering that, that’s quite a lot.”

Roma prepare £20m swoop for Everton defender

Roma have been linked with a swoop for Everton star Jarrad Branthwaite.

Branthwaite spent last season on loan at PSV where he made 37 appearances.

Plans to turn that into a permanent move have fallen by the wayside.

However, reports from The Daily Mail suggest Branthwaite, 20, has alerted Jose Mourinho to his availability with £20m cited as a possible transfer fee. He has been shortlisted as one potential replacement for the departing Roger Ibanez.
