Gloucester City to face former Championship club Scunthorpe United as league allocations for 2023-24 season are announced
Former Championship club Scunthorpe United will be one of six new opponents for Gloucester City in the National League North next season.
Scunthorpe suffered a second successive relegation after dropping from the National League’s top division and join five promoted sides in the league next season.
Bishop’s Stortford are placed in the North section after winning the Isthmian League Premier Division, while Northern Premier League champions South Shields and play-off winners Warrington Town also move up.
The other two sides are from the Southern League Premier Central, with champions Tamworth and play-off winners Rushall Olympic completing the line-up.
In the Southern League, Cirencester Town’s hopes of re-joining the Southern League Division One South have been dashed as they remain in the Central section.
They are joined by relegated trio North Leigh – managed by Town boss John Brough between 2016 and 2018 – Bedford Town and King’s Langley.
Marlow are moved over from the Isthmian League South Central where they reached the play-offs last season, with Walthamstow making the move over to the Isthmian League North.
There are two promoted clubs in the division, Spartan South Midlands League champions Leighton Town and runners-up Stotfold, promoted after winning an inter-division play-off.
The Southern section includes Evesham United and Bishop’s Cleeve, and they are joined by relegated Yate Town and four promoted sides – champions Cribbs and inter-division play-off winners Malvern Town from the Hellenic League Premier Division, Western League champions Mousehole and Bemerton Heath Harlequins, Wessex League runners-up but promoted as Lymington Town were demoted after failing the ground grading.
Malvern will play at Step 4 for the first time since 2009, and with co-managers Lee Hooper and Steve Cleal announcing they are staying with the club, Cleal will face a reunion with former club Bishop’s Cleeve.
Cinderford Town and Slimbridge are relegated to the Hellenic League Premier Division, making for some intriguing Gloucestershire derbies with Brimscombe & Thrupp, Fairford, Town, Longlevens, Lydney Town and Tuffley Rovers, and they are joined by Highworth Town, who came down from the Southern League Central division.
Promoted are Pershore Town, champions of Hellenic League Division One, while also joining are former non-League giants Worcester City, founder members of the Alliance Premier League (now National League), finishing third in the first season.
They are transferred from the Midland League to join city rivals Worcester Raiders, while Mangotsfield United have been switched to the Western League Premier.
In Division One, Pershore’s promotion to the Premier and Milton United’s rise to the Combined Counties Division One North sees Chipping Sodbury relegated from the Premier Division.
Bourton Rovers, Hartpury University, Cheltenham Saracens, Moreton Rangers, Newent Town, Shortwood United and Stonehouse Town are also joined by FC Bristol and Tytherington Rocks, who swap over from the Western League Division One.
There are two promoted sides, Devizes Town from the Wiltshire Premier Division and Sporting Club Inkberrow, who pipped Ledbury Town to the Herefordshire County League title, while Cirencester Town Development and Littleton have been relegated.
