Scales of Justice results from Oxford Magistrates’ Court

SIMON COWLEY, 37, of Falkners Close, Adderbury, pleaded guilty to destroying a wing mirror on a car in Banbury, causing £100-worth of damage. He was fined £80, ordered to pay £100 in compensation and a further £117 in costs and surcharge. A restraining order was imposed preventing him from contacting his victim or going to any address he reasonably believes her to be living at.

FILIPE ROCHA DA SILVA, 32, of Manor Park, Hampton Poyle, admitted driving a blue Citroen C3 on Bicester Road, Kidlington, while over the drug-driving limit for cannabis. He was fined £150, banned from the roads for a year and must pay £145 in costs and surcharge.

DANIEL WEBB, 39, of Hammersham Hill, High Wycombe, and Sarah Cotterell, 43, of the same address, pleaded guilty to stealing items worth £218 from Marks and Spencers in Oxford last November. Both were given a six month conditional discharge.

DAYNE SMITH, 31, of Harts Close, Kidlington, pleaded guilty to driving a silver Ford Focus estate on Hailey Road, Witney, on January 2 while disqualified from driving. The driver was uninsured. The magistrates ordered Smith do 120 hours of unpaid work and up to 19 rehabilitation activity requirement days with the probation service. He was banned from driving for a further eight months and ordered to pay £199 in costs and surcharge.

DENIZ KOYUN, 28, of Pettys Close, Cheshunt, admitted drug driving a Mercedes Sprinter van on Bucknell Road, Bicester, last October. A blood test revealed he was over the limit for cannabis. He was fined £80, banned from driving for a year and must pay £117 in costs and surcharge.

KRISTIAN MARONEY, 27, of Portway, Aynho, admitted burgling Green Routes Café last October – stealing £2,000 in cash – and took tools worth more than £2,200 from a property in Long Lane, also in Oxford. The justices imposed eight months’ imprisonment suspended for two years, saying Maroney was currently doing ‘positive work’ on a drug rehabilitation order and as the offences dated back to 2021 it would be ‘unjust’ to send him to jail immediately. He was ordered to pay £85 in costs to the Crown Prosecution Service.

BARNEY SARGENT, 31, of Gordon Road, Upper Heyford, admitted drink driving a Ford Transit on Walker Road, Upper Heyford. A breath test showed he had 71mcgs of alcohol in 100ml of breath; slightly over twice the legal limit of 35mcgs. He was fined £440, banned from driving for a year and a half and must pay £85 in costs and a £176 victim surcharge.

FABIAN HOUGHTON, 20, of Distillery Walk, Brentford, admitted causing a man actual bodily harm in Oxford on May 12 last year and damaging a cell mattress at Abingdon police station after his arrest. The district judge ordered he do 120 hours of unpaid work and pay £500 in compensation to the victim of the assault and a further £120 in compensation to Thames Valley Police.
