Sheffield United news: New club enters race for Wolves’ Conor Coady, Billy Sharp wanted
Today’s round-up of Sheffield United transfer news and headlines from the Premier League include competition for Conor Coady and former skipper Billy Sharp not likely to be short of interest.
Billy Sharp wanted
Billy Sharp is wanted by local rivals Rotherham United. The Blades skipper is being released at the end of the month when his contract expires and the Millers have made early contact.
The Telegraph’s Mike McGrath claims Rotherham have registered their interest already in the 37-year-old, who is expected to attract plenty of interest from clubs looking to snaffle a proven goalscorer at that level.

A move to Rotherham would make sense, given the fact that Sharp is settled in Sheffield with a young family, would want Championship football and also runs a local coaching school.
New club in for Coady
Sheffield United-linked Conor Coady is now attracting the interest of Leicester City, according to reports. The Wolves ace has been heavily linked with a return to Bramall Lane.
Nottingham Forest have also been credited with interest and it looks like the Blades will face competition for his signature if they want to lure him back to S2. It is now being reported that the Foxes are the latest to chuck their hat into the ring as they look to rebuild following relegation to the Championship.
Clubs are waiting to hear what Wolves plan to do with Coady, who wants to remain at the club. He is due to start pre-season at Molineux and is keen to discuss his future with manager Julen Lopetegui.
Man City eyeing more midfielders
That can only be good news for Sheffield United as they look to lure Tommy Doyle back to Bramall Lane. Fresh from having a bid accepted for Chelsea’s Croatian international Mateo Kovacic, the Press Association now reports City’s interest in West Ham midfielder Declan Rice.
Arsenal saw a £90m offer rejected for the England midfielder earlier in the week and rumours of City’s intention to make a move, with captain Ilkay Gundogan set to leave for Barcelona, have gathered pace.
It is being claimed City are looking to hijack Arsenal’s attempts to sign him by submitting a £100m offer.
Newcastle closing in on Milan ace
Newcastle are hoping to finalise a deal of at least £50m for AC Milan midfielder Sandro Tonali. Sporting director Dan Ashworth has jetted out to Italy to complete the move, with the two clubs putting the final touches to the deal.
It’s another indication of what United will be coming up against next season as clubs in the division start to flex their financial muscle.
Man United mount a serious bid
And on that theme, Manchester United are closing in on the £60m transfer of Chelsea’s Mason Mount. Old Trafford chiefs had seen an offer of £50m knocked back, with Chelsea holding out for £70m.
However, the Mirror reports that a compromise has been reached over a £60m transfer. Mount is out of contract in 2024 and does not want to extend his stay at Stamford Bridge.
