Skatepark, zip line and pavilion in plan for Poringland site

Skatepark, zip line and pavilion in plan for Poringland site

Poringland Parish Council has been working on proposals for land off The Ridings and Victory Avenue for almost seven years.

After extensive community consultations, the plans have been lodged with South Norfolk Council for consideration, showing how it’s hoped the site could take site.

Parish council chairman Tim Boucher said: “It has been an ambition of ours for quite some years, to get the whole community land project going.

“Our intention is to meet the requirements and requests of our parishioners but we also wanted to be realistic about what was achievable.”

If the project is approved at a future meeting of South Norfolk’s planning committee then the parish council will continue to work on the long-term project, with further fundraising and grants likely to be needed to bring the plans to life.

The land was purchased from housing developer Norfolk Homes, one of the developers that have brought new homes to the village in recent years.

The 30-acre site is currently a green space available to the public that has hosted fireworks displays in the last two years.

If approved, the site would feature a 130sqm pavilion with kitchen facilities, toilets and a hall that could be rented out for events, while retaining extensive green space.

A multi-use games area, 64 allotment spaces with associated sheds and car parking, a skatepark, a zip line, a pump track for bikes and 64 car parking spaces for the pavilion are all part of the proposals.

The proposal’s conclusion states: “This application will create a very important recreational and open space resource for the residents of Poringland.

“It has been specifically designed to ensure that the visual and noise impacts of the facility will not adversely impact on the residential amenity of existing properties.”
