Dorset Taste of the West winners from the first two phases

The first and second phases of the Taste of the West awards have concluded and several Dorset businesses have come out with awards.

The Taste of the West focuses on the food and drink industry in the south-west of England. The awards recognise and reward excellence in customer service, the quality of the food and drink offered and the commitment to provenance.

The judging for the first two phases of the Product Awards 2023 has finished. The judging is split into three phases to spread things out, there is no difference in achievement between the phases.

 

Savoury Bakery:

J and M Parsons in Sherborne received five awards in the savoury bakery class. Gold for its chicken, leek and bacon pie, steak and ale pie and steak and kidney pie with silver awards for its Sherborne Breakfast Pie and Steak Pasty.

No Mess Tins Limited (t/a Town Mill Bakery) in Lyme Regis won gold for its multigrain sourdough loaf and its white sourdough loaf.

Rise Bakery in Bridport won gold for its white sourdough and was commended for its slice malted bread.

 

Sweet Bakery: 

Christine’s Puddings near the Blackmore Vale won gold for its sticky toffee pudding and silver for its mini frangipans.

Rise Bakery in Bridport won gold for its Portuguese tarts and silver for its croissants.

 

Confectionary:

Rise Bakery based in Bridport won gold for its cinnamon cronut and vegan carrot cake. It was also commended for its vegan raspberry brownie.

 

Chocolate:

Levoco Chocolates based in Weymouth won gold for its cinnamon bon bons, espresso caramel bon bons, lemon cheesecake bon bons and silver for its coconut bon bons and spiced ginger bon bons.

Purbeck Ice Cream based in Dorset won gold for its Ecuadorian dark 72% with natural peppermint chocolate bar and for its Ecuadorian dark 40% with natural peppermint chocolate bar.

 

Ice Cream and Sorbet:

Baboo Gelato, which has locations across west Dorset, won gold for its blackcurrant ripple gelato, blood orange sorbet, fennel and orange gelator, raspberry sorbet and rum raisin gelato.

Marshfield farm ice cream shop in Weymouth won gold for its vanilla clotted cream ice cream and silver for its chocolate fudge brownie ice cream, jelly and ice cream and salted caramel ice cream.

Purbeck Ice Cream based in Dorset has won gold for its vanilla bean ice cream and silver for its salted caramel ice cream and its mango and passion fruit ice cream.

 

Dairy (non-cheese):

Meggy Moo’s Dairy in Blandford Forum won gold for its semi-skimmed and whole milk.

 

Meat and poultry:

Dorset Game Larder based near Blandford won gold for its pheasant breast Ballantine x2 and for its boned and stuffed pheasant.

 

Fish:

Sea Sisters which has a cannery based in Bridport won gold for its canned cuttlefish in ink, canned salt pollock with garlic and bay and canned smoked rainbow trout.

 

Ready meals and soups:

Outdoorfood Ltd based near Bridport won gold for its leek and potato soup.

 

Free from:

Hampton Farm Brownies make their brownies in Dorset. It won gold for its Hampton classic brownie.

 

Vegan:

Leveco in Weymouth won gold for its hazelnut bonbon.

Purbeck Ice Cream based in Dorset won gold for its vegan chocolate and raspberry ice cream.

Sweet preserves:

The Cherry Tree which is headquartered in Dorset won gold for its lemon and lime curd, lemon curd, strawberry extra jam, and super berry jam. 

Sweet Natured Preserves based in Christchurch, Dorset won gold for its seedless raspberry and passionfruit jam.

 

Pickles, chutney and relishes:

The Cherry Tree based near Bridport won gold for its mango and ginger chutney and silver for its cheeseboard chutney and chilli jam.

 

Wines, spirits and liqueurs:

Black Ven Distillery in Lyme Regis has won gold for its black ven dark rum.

Lyme Bay Winery in Lyme Regis won gold for its blackbeer and raisin wine, elderflower wine, and rhubarb mead and silver for its strawberry wine.

Shanty Spirit who are based in Dorset won gold for its seaweed botanical vodka.
