Wigan Athletic (H) Carabao Cup First Round
Wrexham’s return to the League Cup (now known as the Carabao Cup) sees them host old sparring partners Wigan at the Racecourse on August 9. The two sides met frequently in the league back in the 1990s and early 2000s but haven’t clashed for over two decades.
Former Reds defender Curtis Tilt will make a return to his former stomping ground and there is likely to be a fantastic atmosphere as the Dragons will want to lay down a marker against their League One opponents.
Tranmere Rovers (A)
There will be no love lost between these old foes as matches between the two are almost always feisty affairs. Many Wrexham fans view the Birkenhead side as the club’s second biggest rivals after Chester and there is sure to be a huge sea of red in the Cowshed at Prenton Park.
The September 2 match will mark the first of three ‘derby’ games in September as the Reds face Crewe Alexandra and Stockport County in the same month.

Crewe Alexandra (H)
Whilst this fixture used to be a regular occurrence, games between the two have been few and far between over the last 25 years or so as the Cheshire club have been operating at higher levels of the pyramid. The tables could be about to turn however as Wrexham will go into this season strong favourites to finish above Alex.
Former Crewe man Callum McFadzean could feature against his old club and there will almost certainly be an electric atmosphere at the September 30 clash between the two sides only 28 miles apart.
Bradford City (A)
This match between two of the pre-season favourites for promotion will almost certainly attract a crowd of over 20,000 at the impressive Valley Parade Stadium. The October 21 match will also see Wrexham-born great Mark Hughes take charge of the Bantams whilst City legend Phil Parkinson will be in the Wrexham dug out.
The 90-mile trip over the Pennines will be one that Dragons fans will relish and thousands of Reds will be sure to make themselves heard at what will undoubtedly be a great occasion.
Stockport County (H)
Matches between this pair have always had a bit of an edge given the relatively close proximity of the two clubs geographically. This rivalry intensified during the 2021/22 season as the pair went head to head for the National League title – a battle eventually won by the Hatters.
Without wishing to get too far ahead of ourselves, many supporters of the two clubs will be expecting their respective sides to be there or thereabouts for this final day encounter at the Racecourse on April 27 – could it be a make-or-break, winner takes all clash? You wouldn’t bet against it.
