Mike Krack claims Aston Martin can overthrow Red Bull’s dominance on traditional European tracks

Mike Krack claims Aston Martin can overthrow Red Bull’s dominance on traditional European tracks

While Aston Martin has shown significant progress compared to last year, they still have a substantial amount of ground to cover to match Red Bull’s performance. For the past eight races, Max Verstappen of Red Bull has claimed victory in six. Nevertheless, Aston Martin has demonstrated competitiveness on street circuits, often matching the pace of the team based in Milton-Keynes.

Despite their promising showings, the Silverstone-based team is yet to secure their first victory of the year. However, Team principal Mike Krack believes Aston Martin can bridge the gap to Red Bull’s dominance in the more conventional European circuits.

Mike Krack expressed his anticipation for the European circuits and mentioned that the true strength of Red Bull would be evident in such situations. Additionally, he also noted that it would provide a better understanding of Aston Martin’s current distance from the desired outcome.

“We’re looking forward to them. Because in such [European] circuits I think we will also see the true strength of the Red Bull, and also it means we have a better indication of how far we are away,” Krack said.

The Canadian Grand Prix presented challenges with technical issues and adverse weather conditions. The first practice session was canceled due to CCTV problems, and the second session was affected by rain. Hence, AMR23’s upgrades had limited data collection time, with only one hour of dry running. Nonetheless, Mike Krack, the team’s principal, is not too worried about the car’s performance in future races.

Krack stated they were not concerned and explained that they believed the recent upgrades to the AMR23 had been effective. He mentioned upcoming tracks with numerous high-speed corners and expressed confidence in the team’s improvements in that aspect of their car. He also acknowledged that the previous race in Montreal did not offer as many high-speed corners.

“No, I’m not concerned, because I think we have seen the latest upgrades have seemed to work,” he said. “There is some tracks coming now where you have a lot of high-speed corners, and I think we improved our car in high-speed corners, which we have maybe not so many [in Montreal],” Krack further explained.

Aston Martin is currently P3 in the constructors’ standings battling, Mercedes and Ferrari for that position. Fernando Alonso, after scoring the bulk of the points for his team, is third in the drivers’ standings. Teammate Lance Stroll trails behind in eighth place.
